The urban dictionary describes the “X Factor” as being an indescribable quality, or something about a person, or persons, that you can’t put your finger on. They just have “it.”
So, it was destiny that Makenna & Brock would find themselves auditioning for the television show The X-Factor in 2011, singing their version of the Zac Brown Band hit, “Colder Weather,” to an international audience of millions. The duo had not even finished the song when the audience took to their feet and thundered with applause. At that point, judge Simon Cowell (who always played the “bad guy” on American Idol), held up his hand to calm the audience. Then, he and the other heavyweight judges, including ‘80s pop sensation Paula Abdul, and world-famous producer, L.A. Reid, showered Makenna & Brock with accolades and voted unanimously to put the duo through to the next round. Their show-stopping performance was broadcast throughout the world, and Makenna & Brock were featured in magazines such as People, the Washington Post, Country Daily and Rolling Stone, in addition to many prominent websites, including CNN.com, CBS.com, and MTV.com. They went on to be Top 12 finalists, and their performance still has people talking. Watch the video clip on YouTube and you’ll see why!
Makenna Sullinger and Brock Wade – who split their time between their home base in Springfield, MO and Nashville – first met in 2007 while performing at a Children’s Miracle Network benefit show. They instantly connected, both on and off stage, and ended up becoming a permanent duo and a couple. Since 2009, they have performed throughout the country with their band, sharing the bill with a diverse list of artists, including James Otto, Uncle Kracker, Sheryl Crow, Granger Smith, Cowboy Troy, Sam Riggs & The Night People, Parmalee and Keith Anderson, among others. In the summer of 2014, they toured with the PBR (Professional Bull Riders, Inc.) as the official National Anthem performers, and held after-party concerts in each town they traveled to. They have also sung the National Anthem for the St. Louis Rams, The Texas NASCAR 500 Speedway and other sports leagues.
Makenna and Brock are currently busy performing on the road and dedicating several weeks each month to be in Nashville where they are honing their writing chops with some of the best songwriters in the business. They are also busy planning the release of their newest EP recorded in Nashville with hit record producer Bill McDermott.
