The TurpinTyme Ragsters are a seven- to eight-piece ensemble that recreates bygone sounds of the Ragtime era. In June 2011 they were featured at the prestigious Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival in Sedalia, Missouri. TurpinTyme Ragsters turn the clocks back to an era of ceiling fans, ice-cream socials and Sunday concerts in the park with a program featuring songs from turn-of-the-century America. The group performs popular old-time music by composers such as Scott Joplin, Eubie Blake, Joseph Lamb, Jelly Roll Morton and their namesake, Tom Turpin. The program unfolds with toe-tapping ragtime melodies accompanied by historical, biographical and humorous commentary. The TurpinTyme Ragsters’ repertoire includes “The Entertainer”, “Solace”, “St. Louis Rag”, “Grandpa’s Spell” and many more ragtime era and 1920s songs.
