The James Ward Band, also known as The JWB, has a world class sound of its own: contemporary jazz, fusion, blues, r&b, gospel, and a dose of latin. Their show is uplifting and satisfying to the emotions. Their CD, “In Perspective,” has shared the Smooth Jazz charts with jazz luminaries such as Marcus Miller, Norman Brown, and Michael McDonald, remaining on the charts for an entire year. Their most recent release, “Groove Axis,” did just as well as their first project. The James Ward Band performs at events such as the Jazz and Wine Festival, Rhythm and Ribs Festival, Lee's Summit Downtown Days, and Music on Main in Grandview. Most recently, James and Angela, founders of The James Ward Band, participated in a music education camp where they taught over 70 Bahamian youth music theory, jazz education, and performance. They also participated in a residency at Paseo Acedemy of Fine and Performing Arts where they taught jazz education in an after school program. This band has an outstanding range of performance and master classes to offer by their 6 six-person ensemble featuring Gerald Dunn on saxophones, Matt Hopper on guitar, Ray Stewart on percussion, Ryan Lee on drums, Angela Ward on keyboards, and James Ward on bass.
